Newborn Posing Class

I love my job. One of my favorite aspects of photography is there is an unending base of knowledge out there and there is always something new to learn. I know this applies to many careers, but photographers make learning fun. Just getting to play with cameras, lights, and angles all the while hanging out with great friends. I had one of those occasions this past weekend when I took part in one of of Kelley Ryden’s Newborn Posing Workshops in Nashville. While I have become very skilled in working with newborns over the years, I learned so much in one weekend from Kelley, and her sister Tracy, who are true masters in the art of newborn portraiture. During the two-day workshop we had the opportunity to work with 4 newborns and many different poses. To our disbelief, Kelly promised that none of the babies would cry during each of their 3-4 hour studio session, and amazingly enough, she followed through on her promise. We had one boy, a pair of tiny twin girls and one sweet cherub of a little girl and all four were wonderful to work with. The class was small, allowing us all time to shoot and pick Kelley and Tracy’s open minds. I am looking forward to using this new knowledge to make even more memorable works of art for my clients and their new bundles of joy! Here are some of my favorites from my weekend, but please, do not attempt the posing from these images, or the images from Kelley’s site without being trained or learning their techniques. Safety is first and foremost of importance with working with newborns.
