Jim + Robin

Monday, April 26th, 2010

A perfect spring day in East Tennessee, plus a couple perfect for each other made for a perfect wedding day for Jim and Robin. Their small, intimate ceremony took place in front of their closest friends and family at the D Garden Floritique in downtown Sevierville. The day was relaxed and we had great time wandering around downtown doing portraits before the guests arrived. Robin had her hair and make-up done next door to D Garden at Southern Fried Hair Studio, by the talented Julie Avison. If I knew more about wedding dresses, I’d go into detail about Robin’s dress, but since I don’t, I’ll just describe it as stunning. It had a beautiful vintage look to it.

Jim’s son Cooper was multi-tasking that day, serving as best man, ring bearer and ladies-man.

The next series calls for a little back story. Robin wanted to play a little joke on Jim on their wedding day. The couple chose not to write their own vows, so Robin’s little joke was to have the minister announce during the ceremony that Jim and Robin would read the vows they wrote. Robin started, pulling out a piece of paper, and proceeded to read. Needless to say, Jim started to panic just a bit. Robin did her best to get through her “vows” with a straight face, and Jim was more than relieved when the joke was over and he was able to repeat the minister’s vows rather than ad-lib his own.

WHEW…can you see the relief!

The reception was held at Bistro 109, also in downtown Sevierville. It was a beautiful restaurant with incredibly good food. Inside there was a fountian with water running down a large piece of glass and lit from above with a single light. In an attempt to play up the vintage look of Robin’s dress we did an old Hollywood stylized portrait.

Doug & Julie

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Well, according to the calendar, spring is here. You wouldn’t know it by looking out the window today and seeing freezing rain falling from the grey sky, but we got a taste of it the other day. In addition to warm temperatures and chirping birds, love was in the air, especially between these two. Doug and Judy will be tying the know next month and wanted to get some portraits done to have made into a guest signature book. We had a great time and brought Doug’s adorable granddaughter, Avery, along to add a pinch of cuteness. Enjoy, and congratulation Doug and Julie.

Amy & Craig

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Craig and Amy’s big day finally arrived of a beautiful, but hot, Saturday on the 8th of August. Amy did a masterful job of pulling her wedding together considering most everyone in attendance, including the bride and groom, were from out of town. She had lots of great help locally and it paid off with beautiful ceremony at Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville, followed by a dance-into-the night reception at the Royal Oaks Event Facility. Karen Sands of The Flower Shop made the beautiful bouquets and Partrick Durham of Party Boys DJ brought the party to a group that really like to spend time on the dance floor. And Dena Kyle made a stunning cake that tasted as good as it looked.  Craig and Amy have really found true love in each other and it was a blessing to see that love in them through out their wedding day.  I’m still wading through the images but wanted to take time to pull a few out that give a glimpse into their joyful union. Enjoy!

Two Great Websites

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Just wanted to share two great websites that I have found, and will be working with in the future. They are the Knoxville Wedding Daily Times and the Baby Daily Times Knoxville edition. Both sites have national versions, but it is the local versions that I think will benefit you the most. For those brides out there, the wedding daily times is like one stop shopping for all your vendor needs. It is a great place to find out what is happening in the Knoxville wedding scene. The Baby Times has everything parents need to know no matter how old your child is, as well as a great list of businesses that help make parenting a little bit easier. And both sites have one other feature that I just love, and that’s a monthly photo contest. Find the link on the front page of both sites and choose from several categories and see some great work by area photographers. Don’t forget to cast your vote for your favorite images as well (which I hope are mine of course!) I plan on entering some of my favorites images each month. So it may just be one of your images up there wait for your vote.  Anyway, I just wanted to share those sites with you. Another busy week ahead and lots to share. Had a great day shooting Amy & Craig’s wedding and can’t wait to share some of those images with you, so as always, stay tuned! – Jason

Kevin + Megan

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Welcome to the new blog! This is a long overdue update to my favorite place to show off my wonderful clients and their cute children, not to mention my own kids from time to time. I had planned to update this back in the winter during the slower months, but things never quite slowed down, which it one of those good problems to have. I finally realized that there would never be a perfect time to do this, so no time like the present. Right smack-dab in the middle of summer portraits and weddings. Yea, great timing huh? I also realized very quickly that I’m a photographer, not a web designer. If time was not an issue, I could have figured this out, but that is not the case. With that in mind, I handed over the reigns to designer Kyle Gilbert to do all the heavy lifting. The first thing you will notice is the much larger photos, followed by a much easier comment section. So let me know what you think, about the blog, about the photos about your experience with J. Davis Photography. The more I know, the better I can tailor your portrait or wedding experience to your needs. I hope you enjoy the new look of the J. Davis Photography Blog. Bookmark, subscribe to it and or just check back often!

Now, let’s get on to what you come here for. Photos, and lots of them. I thought the perfect way to kick off the new blog is with a whole lotta love. Kevin & Megan’s wedding was on a beautiful July Saturday at the Macedonia United Methodist Church. All of Megan’s planning was perfect and everything went off without a hitch. And through out the weekend you could see how strong their love was by the way they looked at each other. The reception was held at the Holston Hills Country Club and music provided by Brian S. Graham Entertainment. It was a fabulous and fun day for everyone, and the candy bar was a sweet ending to their special day! Congratulations Kevin & Megan. Now enjoy a peek at their day, and leave them some love!
