Jim + Robin

Monday, April 26th, 2010

A perfect spring day in East Tennessee, plus a couple perfect for each other made for a perfect wedding day for Jim and Robin. Their small, intimate ceremony took place in front of their closest friends and family at the D Garden Floritique in downtown Sevierville. The day was relaxed and we had great time wandering around downtown doing portraits before the guests arrived. Robin had her hair and make-up done next door to D Garden at Southern Fried Hair Studio, by the talented Julie Avison. If I knew more about wedding dresses, I’d go into detail about Robin’s dress, but since I don’t, I’ll just describe it as stunning. It had a beautiful vintage look to it.

Jim’s son Cooper was multi-tasking that day, serving as best man, ring bearer and ladies-man.

The next series calls for a little back story. Robin wanted to play a little joke on Jim on their wedding day. The couple chose not to write their own vows, so Robin’s little joke was to have the minister announce during the ceremony that Jim and Robin would read the vows they wrote. Robin started, pulling out a piece of paper, and proceeded to read. Needless to say, Jim started to panic just a bit. Robin did her best to get through her “vows” with a straight face, and Jim was more than relieved when the joke was over and he was able to repeat the minister’s vows rather than ad-lib his own.

WHEW…can you see the relief!

The reception was held at Bistro 109, also in downtown Sevierville. It was a beautiful restaurant with incredibly good food. Inside there was a fountian with water running down a large piece of glass and lit from above with a single light. In an attempt to play up the vintage look of Robin’s dress we did an old Hollywood stylized portrait.

Amy & Craig

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Craig and Amy’s big day finally arrived of a beautiful, but hot, Saturday on the 8th of August. Amy did a masterful job of pulling her wedding together considering most everyone in attendance, including the bride and groom, were from out of town. She had lots of great help locally and it paid off with beautiful ceremony at Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville, followed by a dance-into-the night reception at the Royal Oaks Event Facility. Karen Sands of The Flower Shop made the beautiful bouquets and Partrick Durham of Party Boys DJ brought the party to a group that really like to spend time on the dance floor. And Dena Kyle made a stunning cake that tasted as good as it looked.  Craig and Amy have really found true love in each other and it was a blessing to see that love in them through out their wedding day.  I’m still wading through the images but wanted to take time to pull a few out that give a glimpse into their joyful union. Enjoy!

Welcome to the new blog! This is a long overdue update to my favorite place to show off my wonderful clients and their cute children, not to mention my own kids from time to time. I had planned to update this back in the winter during the slower months, but things never quite slowed down, which it one of those good problems to have. I finally realized that there would never be a perfect time to do this, so no time like the present. Right smack-dab in the middle of summer portraits and weddings. Yea, great timing huh? I also realized very quickly that I’m a photographer, not a web designer. If time was not an issue, I could have figured this out, but that is not the case. With that in mind, I handed over the reigns to designer Kyle Gilbert to do all the heavy lifting. The first thing you will notice is the much larger photos, followed by a much easier comment section. So let me know what you think, about the blog, about the photos about your experience with J. Davis Photography. The more I know, the better I can tailor your portrait or wedding experience to your needs. I hope you enjoy the new look of the J. Davis Photography Blog. Bookmark, subscribe to it and or just check back often!

Now, let’s get on to what you come here for. Photos, and lots of them. I thought the perfect way to kick off the new blog is with a whole lotta love. Kevin & Megan’s wedding was on a beautiful July Saturday at the Macedonia United Methodist Church. All of Megan’s planning was perfect and everything went off without a hitch. And through out the weekend you could see how strong their love was by the way they looked at each other. The reception was held at the Holston Hills Country Club and music provided by Brian S. Graham Entertainment. It was a fabulous and fun day for everyone, and the candy bar was a sweet ending to their special day! Congratulations Kevin & Megan. Now enjoy a peek at their day, and leave them some love!

Darren & Megan… 06-28-08

Monday, July 14th, 2008

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to be a second shooter at a wedding that my good friend Wes Hope was shooting. Back in May, Wes fractured both of his elbows in a fall and had a painful recovery. This wedding was his first after he was cleared by his doctor, and I was tagging along to help in case his arms were not able to hang in there for the duration. His arms did make it through the long day so we just had fun working a wedding together. It has been something we have wanted to do for a while, but our schedules never meshed. As a second shooter, it was a lot of fun not being responsible for all the main stuff, allowing me to shoot more detail images and just explore different angles that I usually don’t have time for. So, thanks for the opportunity Wes…hate it came about the way it did though! Here are a few of my favorites from Megan and Darren’s special day. You can see more wedding day photos on Wes’ blog here!

The beautiful bouquet was done by the fabulous Lisa Foster.

Megan’s grandmother made the very beautiful, and tasty wedding cake.

Britt Hendrix and Matt Casey of the band Nationwide Coverage. If anyone out there needs a live band for a wedding or party, these guys (and girl) really rock the house. Their music selection was wonderful and they sounded great. They had to be one of the best live bands I’ve heard at a wedding. Check them out!

Darren steals a quick kiss during a late night dance with his bride.

Darren’s parents didn’t let the kids show them up, and held their own on the dance floor.

And of course, any time you get two photographers together, at some point they are going to take a photo of the other one taking a photo of them. Here is Wes in action on the dance floor.

That is all for tonight. I have a bunch of great things to blog about this week, including some new shots of my boys, a family portrait session, and  one-year-old Aiden, so keep checking back.  – Jason

Brittany and Chad

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Well, now that you have seen Brittany’s bridal portraits, I thought I’d share some photos from her beautiful wedding to Chad. The ceremony and reception took place in Greenville, TN. The ceremony was at Asbury United Methodist Church and the reception was just down the street on a roof top terrace at the historic General Morgan Inn. While it was a tad on the hot side of the thermometer, the weekend was nothing short of a storybook wedding.  I can’t thank everyone enough for opening their lives to me and my camera and making me feel so welcome on such a special day in their lives. Enjoy a few photos from Brittany and Chad’s weekend! Take a second and leave the wonderful couple some warm wishes in the comment section! – Jason

And the first kiss of their new lives.

Their cake tasted even better than it looked if you can believe that. The cake came from Susie’s Specialty Wedding Cakes in Kingsport –  http://www.susiesweddingcakes.com/.
