Kara turns 1

Thursday, August 31st, 2017

It’s birthday time again! This time sweet little Kara is coming up on that big 1 year milestone. Her momma went all out on this session, with balloons, streamers and a big bubble bath to top off the fun. Kara’s big sister Kaylee’s 1 year cake smash session didn’t go off like we’d hoped and Kaylee had no interest in the cake. Kara made up for it and then some by diving right into the cake. By the end, there was nothing left but one messy little girl. Kaylee made amends for her 1year session by making great use of the tub and balloon’s after Kara’s session was over and gave us one of the best shots of the day. Happy Birthday Kara!

Chris and Alyssa | e-session

Monday, June 27th, 2016

I had an absolute blast on Chris and Alyssa’s engagement session as we tromped around the horse farm they work at on a beautiful, but warm, summer evening. I’m looking forward to their October wedding, and not just for the cooler weather. I’ve know Chris and Alyssa since the past October when they joined CrossFit Mt. Juliet. It has been amazing watching their journey to a healthier lifestyle and seeing the changes they’ve both made. Both are incredibly hard working, dedicated individuals and together you can just see the love they share. And being on a horse farm, we couldn’t leave out their horses, Sid and Porkchop, both of which did their part in making the portraits memorable. Congratulations Chris and Alyssa!

Halloween 2014

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

It has been way too long since I’ve done a post featuring my own kids, something I used to do fairly regularly. Of course times are busier and the kids are older and less enthusiastic about having their photos made, that is unless they are in costume, then they want to be in front of the camera. So, I present to you the 2014 costumes of choice: a swamp zombie and werewolf. Not exactly the type of portraits of my children I want to show off, but hey anything is better than nothing. And there just might have been a little bribery of I’ll take these if you’ll cooperate for a real fall portrait session in the coming days. We’ll see how that works out. These were take just after sunset as we were heading out to hit the streets on the search for the good candy. For those interested, I exposed for the sky in the background minus 1 stop, and then added fill flash at 16th power. Camera setting was 1/125 at f 2.8 & 1000 iso shot with Nikon D3s and 50mm.

Maddie @ 3

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

One of my favorite little girls passed through Nashville this past weekend and stopped in for her three year old session. Maddie continues to grow in both height and personality and each visit with her is as special as the last. I’ve been close friends with her mom and dad since I fist moved to Tennessee and love seeing the happiness this little girl brings them. I’m also quite thankful they have family in the area so despite living almost 5 hours away from each other now, I’ll still get to take beautiful portraits of this sweet girl as she continues to grow!

CrossFit Mt. Juliet

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

For the past several months, I’ve been working out at CrossFit Mt. Juliet, as well as shooting images for the gym. After moving here I knew I wanted to join a gym to continue my journey of getting in better shape. I had done traditional gyms in the past, but being that I’m not a workout guru, they did not work well for me since I didn’t really know what I was doing. I’d learn some things and do those routines, but that was not really challenging my body and giving me the progress I was looking for. I also was my biggest enemy and didn’t know how to push myself through tough workouts. So I began looking for a place that would challenge me as well as offer instruction that would keep me safe while giving me total body workouts. Safety was a big issue for me as I had back surgery several years ago to repair a ruptured disc in my lower back. After talking with Chris Wagner at CrossFit Mt. Juliet, I felt assured that I was going to be in good hands. I’ve heard a lot of talk about CrossFit and how dangerous it can be and athletes being pushed too hard and so on. I’m not expert on the how’s and why’s, but as I see it, you can get hurt in any type of exercise if you’re not doing it right. In my time at CrossFit Mt. Juliet I have felt safer here than I have ever felt at a gym. I am under constant supervision and the coaches are always right there to help with your form. The workouts are carefully planned out and constantly workout different parts of the body, keeping you and your body doing different things and it never gets dull. One of the best things about CrossFit is that it teaches functional movement that you put to use in your everyday life. It has been great for me and my back issues. I no longer just bend over to pick things up, and instead, squat and use my legs and good form, and I will benefit from this for years to come. One of the things I was also looking for was accountability. As I mentioned before, I was my own worst enemy when I went to the gym by myself. Here, I have a coach, as well as other members there by my side, encouraging and supporting me. When things get tough, I am able to keep at it with their support and in the end, I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish. Aside from seeing the differences in my strength and waist line, one of the best things about joining CrossFit Mt. Juliet has been the community I’ve become a part of. All the members, no matter their athletic abilities, are there to better themselves. There is no boasting or looking down at anyone that can’t do something like I’ve seen at other gyms. The way everyone supports and encourages one another is such a wonderful experience. I’ve made some great friends along this journey so far, and they make each workout fun. Things are only going to get better for CrossFit Mt. Juliet in the future as its current temporary location in the Deal Center will become its permanent location following the Deal Center’s renovation this fall. If you are in the market for a gym, or finally want to do something to improve your health and well being, I highly recommend checking CrossFit Mt. Juliet out.
